Inspired to Act?

1 (1)

Inspiration motivates action by igniting enthusiasm, providing a vision, or evoking a sense of purpose. With inspiration, we are often energized to pursue a goal and overcome obstacles to produce tangible results.

Yet, too often, we pause, lacking the inspiration for movement. It’s not surprising … our time is filled with things that need to be done, deadlines, responsibilities, and more. As my mom would say, we look like ducks gliding easily on the water but we are paddling like hell underneath to stay afloat.

All is not lost. Inspiration is accessible but you need to take time to access it. For example, I am writing this blog next to the ocean, with a flock of seagulls flying by, and the sound of waves in the background. This never fails to give me the inspiration to sit down, think about what I want to write about, and actually start writing.

Where do you find inspiration to pursue your goals? There are more ways than one can count. A few include:

  • Engage in activities that broaden your perspective and trigger new ideas – travel, read, talk to strangers.
  • Connect with creative communities – take a class, share experiences and insights with others, use the right side of your brain.
  • Find solitude in nature – get outside and allow yourself some downtime to experience what’s around you and within you.
  • Take the other side of the argument – challenge your assumptions and see what new ideas pop up.
  • Practice mindfulness and reflection – uncover those sources of inspiration within yourself.
  • Connect and/or learn about people who inspire you – seek lessons and ideas.

These are just a few ideas. Inspiration can come from anywhere if you remain open-minded and curious.

This week: Schedule some time to be inspired. Choose an activity which will help you step away from the ordinary. Immerse yourself in the experience and then reflect on what appeared.
