Community Involvement

LAITHOS believes that brilliant leadership: inspires leadership in others; is a catalyst for great cultures; and shares a vision that generates community.

During my two-decade corporate career, I had opportunities to fix, change, and create processes and systems for almost all company functions. In early career days, my focus was to educate people on new changes, roll out new processes, and be a subject matter expert for follow-up questions. After that, I’d move on to the next challenge I was given.

It was during my first team leadership role that I decided to change my approach. I focused on leading the change versus managing the change. I wanted to create a culture of community by engaging others in the creation of the change and involving even more people in building momentum once the change was designed and executed.

The shift was phenomenal. Engaging the hearts and minds of people is fundamental to successful changes in processes and systems. In fact, when team members think strategically, connect the dots between vision and tactics, and – most importantly – think about the people implications, the entire organization benefits. Sustainable change only happens when you involve and inspire people.

Borrowing a popular saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”  Quite simply, it doesn’t get better than that!

This Week’s Challenge: Take stock in your work and your life on where you are part of a community. What is needed to expand each community and make it/them stronger and more sustainable? How does your leadership show up? Click here to learn more about leadership brilliance.
