Choose Your Way

choose your way

In my youth, I fell in love with Victor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning. The line, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”, became my touchstone which I returned to frequently as I faced choices in the “real” world.

The reality is that we are faced with circumstances every day that we can’t control – in business and in life. Recognizing that there are choices can sometimes be hard; and, making them, even harder. The fact is that clarity around who we are and what’s important to us is critical to making the choices that are right for us. It is our hidden super power which supports our choices.

Here’s the deal. While things may not always go the way we choose, we own the way we show up. That connection to our values gives us the ability to stay the course. To work towards our desired results. It allows us to choose with intention.

This week: Give yourself the gift of choosing with intention. You can start small. The next time you order a drink, even if it’s the same thing you get every day, pause and make it a conscious choice.  Before you get out the car to go into work, pause and choose how you want to show up. Do the same thing when you get back home. You get the idea. Challenge yourself to own your choices and to make them with intention. You may be surprised what shifts in you.
